Former Migori governor Hon. Okoth Obado on Monday suffered a huge blow after a magistrate declined his request to start a fresh hearing of his corruption case. Mr Obado was charged alongside his son’s and
daughters and proxies with conspiracy to defraud the county government of Migori. The prosecutors
have described it as an intricate web of money laundering through use of proxies
They were first charged in 2018 and the state lined up 59 witnesses to testify . But since January
2020 the first prosecution witness is still on stand.
Last year trial magistrate Lawrence mugambi was promoted to become a judge requiring that obados
file to be placed another court.
On Monday the parties converged before new trial magistrate victor wakhulime where all the accused
persons told the court they wanted the hearing to start a fresh.
The prosecution opposed the application to have the matters start afresh saying it was in the interest of
justice that the case is concluded in the shortest time possible . The magistrate in his ruling said the
matter will proceed from where it had reached.
