17-Year-Old Boy Drowns In River Migori

Police in Kuria West, Migori County have launched an investigation into the death of a boy aged 17 years who drowned in river Migori in Masaba area on Friday evening.

Kuria West police commander Cleti Kimaiyo said the body of the deceased identified as Alex Ochieng was found in river Migori.

Mr.Kimaiyo said preliminary investigations established that the deceased drowned in river Migori while he was on a swimming expedition. He said the deceased was in the company of his brother when the incident occurred.

The sub-county police commander said the police have launched an investigation to establish what transpired before the drowning incident.

The body was moved to Ojele memorial hospital mortuary pending police investigation and autopsy.

Meanwhile, Mr.Kimaiyo has appealed to the parents to restrain their children from accessing the river to avoid such deaths.

In the month of December 2022, two school-going children drowned in river Migori in the Jua-Kali area within Migori town during a swimming expedition. The two learners opted to go on a fishing expedition as they were waiting for their sponsor to give them school fees when they met their death.
