The announcement was made Azimio leader Raila Odinga when he paid a visit to Magoha’s family in Nairobi to condole with them.

According to Odinga, Magoha’s death is a sad moment for Kenyans who have lost an academic giant.

“This a very sad moment for the nation, we have lost a great king, an academic giant and a leader who dedicated his life to serve the nation,” he said.

He described Magoha as a professional leader who instilled discipline in the education sector.

He added that Magoha ensured that there was no cheating in exams during the time he served as minister of education.

Magoha’s death comes at a time he was preparing to bury his brother who passed on recently.

Magoha served as Cabinet Secretary for Education in former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.

Prior to this appointment, Magoha chaired the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) from 2016 to 2019 which he joined from the University of Nairobi where he had been the Vice-Chancellor since 2005 to 2015.

Upon leaving the government, Magoha was named a professor of surgery at Maseno University School of Medicine.
