The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a Land Registrar based at the Ngong Land Registry for allegedly demanding a Ksh.2.5 million bribe from a member of the public in order to process their title deed.

In a statement from the commission, Charles Mwendwa Mutua was arrested on Monday by police from Kilimani police station while receiving Ksh.900,000 which was a bargain from the aforesaid bribe.

Mutua’s arrest comes after a series of investigations were conducted following a complaint presented to the commission claiming that Mutua, jointly working with his boss Caroline Simuli Kituyi, is notorious for demanding huge bribes for title deeds to be processed.

“On 7th December 2022, the Commission received a report from a member of the public who alleged that both Caroline Simuli Kituyi and Charles Mwendwa Mutua based at Ngong Land Registry were demanding a bribe from him in order to process the Title Deeds of his land,” wrote EACC adding that both were to share the amount.

Confirming the claims, EACC established that the accusations were indeed true prompting detectives to make the arrest.

Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched to arrest Kituyi who is said to have evaded arrest. She has been ordered to present herself to Integrity Centre Police Station.

Mutua is currently detained at the Kilimani Police Station pending further processing.
