“Two women abused victims who turned to them in times of grief,” Leonard Carollo, FBI special agent in charge of Denver, said in a statement.
A mortuary owner and his mother have been sentenced to a total of 35 years in prison after dismembering hundreds of bodies and selling body parts without the consent of their clients’ families.

Prosecutors say Megan Hess, 46, and Shirly Koch, 69, dismembered 560 corpses and sold body parts without permission between 2010 and 2018.
Hess will be sentenced to 20 years in prison, while Koch will be sentenced to 15 years in prison.
According to prosecutors in Colorado, the mother and daughter duo harvested body parts, and sometimes whole bodies, and sold them. Hess — who ran the Sunset Mesa Funeral Home in Montrose — charged families up to $1,000 for cremations. which was not done and instead handed over the bodies as free donations.
