Raheem Sterling’s home was raided by armed burglars exactly 3 days before their England game against Senegal. His home was raided by armed invaders while his partner and young children were in the house on Saturday night, sources confirm.
Raheem’s understood to be hugely committed to England and World Cup — but then he immediately wanted to get home as he’s worried for his family and also his children.
A spokesperson for the FA said Sterling would not play in the game.
The statement read: “Raheem Sterling is not available for selection for the #ThreeLions tonight as he is dealing with a family matter.”
The shock announcement came just hours before the Three Lions were due to kick off against the African Cup of Nations champs.
Speaking after the match, England manager Gareth Southgate said he didn’t know if Sterling would return to Qatar in time for the Three Lions’ clash with France on Saturday.
Sterling communicated his plan to leave as he has full support of Southgate, all the teammates and FA.
Raheem will return to Qatar if the circumstances are right and if/when he feels it’s the right, best time.
