EACC ON THE HUNT FOR KAKAMEGA GOVERNOR

The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) is on the hunt for Kakamega governor H.e Fernandes Barasa for scandalous activities mitigated during his tenure at KETRACO. He is required to appear before the EACC investigative panel on Monday, November 7th, 2022, to record a statement in regard to a suspected fraudulent transaction said to have been paid to Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) for a project in Marsabit.

The project was supposed to carter for electricity supplement in Marsabit region, the activity saw a loss of over 14.2 billion shillings through corrupt mea. He was required to appear before the scrutiny board before the general elections but he resigned from the post and also had to seek an appeal for the case

“I confirm that EACC has summoned the Governor to record a statement in an ongoing investigation relating to the Lake Turkana Wind Power project,”

a source at the anti-graft body said

The investigations stems from a report on suspected irregularities in payment to a private investor. During the transactions the Kakamega governor was the chief executive officer of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO)

The current governor resigned from his post two months before the general elections in order to focus more on election given that the campaign period was at its peak, he resigned a day before he was supposed to appear before the PLC board for questioning.

During his tenure at the company, H.E Fernandes Barasa was believed to be one of the main chief campaigners and the official financcers of the Azimio Coalition’

EACC has been following prominent personalities for scandalous activities with Barasa appearing to be caught by the bait after Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomurkai and Sirisia Mp Hon John Waluke.

Currently John Waluke has been jailed for over 67 years in relation to his scandalous activities in the Kenya cereals commision.
