At san Siro Barcelona was defeated by Inter Milan 1-0 , the sole goal was scored by Hakan Calhanoglu. Despite dominating the match and creating several chances, Barca was not able to score. Barcelona’s head coach Xavi Hernandez expressed blamed the referees terming them as injust, during a post match press conference after the clash against inter.
“I am angry and indignant about what we have seen, it is an injustice, I said it on Monday and I have to say it again: the referees have to come out and explain themselves because I don’t understand anything. The referee didn’t want to give me an explanation after the game. Referees have to speak; I can’t speak about a decision I have not made. For me, the decisions were crystal clear. I don’t understand it at all.”
At Anfield Liverpool got a 2-0 victory against Rangers. Trent Alexander Arnold scored the opening goal on the 7th minute. Later on Luis Diaz was fouled in the penalty box consequently Liverpool were awarded a penalty which Mohammed Salah netted in at the 53rd minute. Jurgen Klopp was delighted with team efforts and tactics applied by Liverpool players during the match.
“We went back to a little bit more of a basic 4-4-2 and played it really well. We shifted across the pitch really well, made it compact, they couldn’t play through us, they were playing a lot of long balls and we were picking up the second balls. The change of tactic definitely helped us today, so we’ll see what happens going forward.”
“We needed a super, super solid performance, top defending, everybody committing, in a new formation. Sometimes you have to change things obviously and it worked out for us tonight. A bit of a surprise for Rangers, of course, the way we set up, that was one of the ideas, but it was more of an idea for us to get into the right spaces and we did that.”
Champions League results match day 3
The match between Frankfurt and Tottenham ended in a 0-0 draw. Tottenham’s manager Antonio Conte in a press conference after the draw against Frankfurt brought forth his thoughts and plans for Tottenham saying that Tottenham has to buy more players during transfer windows so that the coach can have various options for a strong starting XI .
“You know, I think we did a great achievement for the club to play in the Champions League. We finished the season with only 12 or 13 players. I always say that maybe we were lucky to be able to face only two competitions. I think if I say now we have to take steps and have patience. If you compare Champions League with Europa League or Conference League, it’s completely different. You have to play with your strongest XI and it makes it difficult to more changes. I spoke about the transfer market and we know we need more windows.”
“Today I made a substitution and I brought in Gil and he’s a young player. We have to try involve all the players. We have to become stronger as a squad. If we have the ambition and intention to play for these two big competitions – Premier League and Champions League – and you lost a lot of energy and players to injuries, you need a really, really big squad.” Conte added. Marseille won  4-1 against Sporting Lisbon. Atletico Madrid was in for a rude shock after being nailed 2-0 by Clubb Brugge.
Bayern Munchen hammered Viktoria plzen 5-0 at Allianz Arena. Leroy Sane scored a leading goal early in the 7th minute. Six minutes later Gnabry scored the second goal before Mane scoring the third in the 21st. At the 5oth minute, sane scored his stunning  second. Choupo Moting sealed Bayern’s victory at the 59th minute giving Viktoria Plzen no chance for comeback.
