
Kenya Ports Authority to allow importers to clear their cargo at the port of Mombasa. Mombasa chairman of the Kenya international freight and warehousing association, Kifwa Lee Njiru says the move will create fair competition between road and rail transport and revive the economy of Mombasa and towns along Mombasa Nairobi Highway.

Authority has sent notice to transportation, clearing and following agencies and importers on the clearance of cargo from the port. Stakeholders have welcomed the move saying there will be fair competition of cargo since it was mandatory to use SGR line previously.
Variety of opinions and options come on the mode of transportation of cargo by the importers. However, drivers will get back to their jobs and other creation of employment opportunities will emerge. Mombasa will gain its taste as before as there will development in the city.
Stakeholders said with the normal operations at the port of Mombasa, the county and its towns will benefit a lot in terms of business. This will boost the economy of Mombasa at a high rate.
