Day four of senators induction in Naivasha, Nakuru county, the tresuary cabinet secretary Ukur Yatani
slamed over claims that the government is broke and cautioned the political class against misleading
Kenyans on sensitive issues.
The treasury cabinet secretary Ukur Yatani now says the government is not broke as claimed
by a section of politicians terming the allegations as a form of ignorance. This comes just a week after the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, during the inauguration asserted that the country was facing economic crisis after finding coffers empty with less than 100 million.
Yatani also claims the treasury has no power to ensure proper usage of revenues by counties and hence there is need for law enhancement of discipline on the usage of public resources to curb mismanagement of funds.
He also stated that mediation without clear timelines between the two houses of parliament on
revenue sharing are the reason for delay in disbursement of funds.
Yatani expressed his concerns over the amount the country owes suppliers through pending bills stating that this affects hundreds of businesses.
