The health sector in Siaya County has been boosted after its governor James Orengo flagged off drugs worth 45 million shillings from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) to be distributed in public hospitals in Siaya County.

According to governor James Orengo, nobody will be allowed to spend any coin set aside for the medical sector no matter the emergency, adding that failure to ring fence the funds have in the past saw the public suffer for lack of drugs.

The governor who was accompanied by his Deputy William Odour, county executive committee member for health and sanitation Dismas Wakala and county secretary William Ogotu said the failure to settle medical bills has affected the supply chain in the past forcing the local residents to spend more to purchase drugs in private chemist.

He also said his government has put in place mechanisms   to ensure regular supply from KEMSA.
